Survivors Support

Support for survivors in all stages of their breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery. This group was formed to provide a source of education, friendship and support for survivors in the Middle Georgia community affected by breast cancer, whether currently fighting or in remission.

The Survivors Support group meets bi-monthly from September to May from 5:30-7:00pm at Forest Hills United Methodist Church at 1217 Forest Hill Road in Macon. Topics discussed are chosen by survivors and are accompanied with a research article to validate the importance on survivorship.

While Survivors meet, there are also programs available for their children.

Children ages 4-16 will enjoy joining meeting simultaneously with our Beach Buddies Club and a nursery is available for any children age 3 and under.

Spouses/Caregivers of our survivors will enjoy meeting simultaneously with our Men IN Pink group.

In between our group meetings, we meet for bi-monthly family socials to allow the WHOLE family the opportunity to meet one another. This environment is very welcoming for first-time visitors and provides another style of fellowship.

Please see our Calendar of Events for dates of upcoming meetings and socials.

Our programs and services are offered at no charge and are supported completely by private donations.

Our Services

  • Every survivor and family has different needs and as an organization, we seek to meet the needs of each family (that may be prayers for some, friendship, notes, calls, company at chemo, etc.)
  • We help connect survivors with other survivors at varying stages in treatment and recovery through groups and activities.
  • We seek to provide a balance of offerings through programs and family socials. Some of our past events have included pumpkin painting, egg hunts, hay rides, pottery, etc.
  • We provide opportunities to be involved in research programs conducted locally that focus on the physical, psychological, and quality of life issues among breast cancer survivors and their families.
  • We partner with local healthcare professionals to offer updated resources and training regarding diagnosis, treatment plans and post-treatment issues.
  • We provide Survivor care packages to newly diagnosed patients as well as new referrals to our organization.
  • We provide Schwan's meal deliveries and house cleanings.
  • We provide books and printed materials to survivors, their children and loved ones.
  • We offer opportunities for interested individuals to help raise awareness in our local community through health fairs, fundraisers and various events.

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. - 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Sister Circle

Sister Circle is our prayer group led by one of our survivors. There are no requirements or expectations with this group. It offers a small, serene setting for any survivor to meet and pray about specific needs and families. These women gather for coffee and share praises, burdens, fears, etc. With this group comes the freedom that not everyone has to participate in praying out loud. It is a warm, welcoming opportunity to raise up our community of survivors. What a splendid blessing this is to see the effects of these prayers!

You can get involved in several different ways – seeking requests, leading prayer, sharing success stories, etc.

This group is set to meet the third Thursday of each month in the morning at our Bunko office. The 2011 launch/kickoff will be held Thursday, January 20th from 9:30-10:30am. Coffee and Water will be provided.

Please contact us if you would like to be a part of this group.

The Naked Truth is a group led by Bowden Templeton, Ph.D., LMFT. Its focus is to provide an intimate setting in which survivors can share their fears, concerns, and thoughts in a safe, comfortable environment. What is said in this group, stays in this group. J Ever feel like fear is controlling you, that you feel out of control with your daily medical choices, that you feel scared, that you are looking for ways to re-build relationships, etc. These are just a few of the thoughts and feelings that may arise in this group. It is an opportunity to bond with fellow sisters and walk this journey together. The name of the group, The Naked Truth, was chosen as a representation that you can bare it all – your deepest concerns and know that you will be heard and most likely, validated by others sitting beside you.

The 2011 launch/kickoff meeting will be held Thursday, January 6th from 5:30-7pm at the Bunko office.

Please contact us if you would like to be a part of this group.
