Our Beach Buddies Summer Camp will be held July 19th - 23rd from 9am – 3pm at Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1217 Forest Hill Road, Macon. The summer camp was designed to allow children ages 4 to 16 to express themselves in a protected and safe environment. Children enjoy outdoor activities, arts and crafts, stories and games. Accompanied by licensed professionals, the children complete journals and workbooks (depending upon age) that guide them through their journey with a loved one diagnosed with breast cancer. All of our programs and offerings are led and approved by our Clinical Director, Bowden Templeton, PhD, LMFT. We strongly believe that this style of support will be rewarding for the children today as well as for the rest of their lives. We look forward to providing a safe environment for the child/children to express themselves verbally, creatively, etc. and also realize they are not alone in this journey. Our camp, as with all of our programs, is offered at no charge and has been funded by a local grant from the Junior League of Macon, funds provided by the Medical Center of Central Georgia and personal and corporate donations. We are very grateful for their support that allows us to make this a reality in our community. It is our prayer that each child in this community who has a mother or grandmother who has been diagnosed with breast cancer will hear about this camp and will have the opportunity to be served through our efforts. Testimonial from last year’s camp… E… and A… have had a BLAST this week!!! Thank you both so much for all you do!!!!! E… told me that she shared my story with her class on the first day. I asked her how it made her feel and she said, “It was fine…everyone there was so nice!” So, thank YOU for giving my sweet daughters a place to have fun, feel comfortable and express how they feel. I’m forever grateful!!! (collage) Please contact us with comments or questions. |
