Men IN Pink

Men IN Pink is our spousal group that was formed to allow survivor spouses the opportunity to enjoy fellowship with others who have also endured a breast cancer diagnosis in their family. These men don’t wear pink to the meetings, they don’t sit in circles and discuss the diagnosis. They meet, eat and greet!
Clay Pugh, Bunko board member and husband of Kami Pugh – a 4 year survivor, has graciously agreed to lead this group. Both are nurses at the Medical Center and both believe this diagnosis was given to “them” not Kami. As marriage partners and parents, they have also made a commitment to join together and beat the odds. Kami and Clay give endless hours to others offering practical advice of how they made it through treatments, how they made decisions together, etc. It is a beautiful story! I encourage all of you to talk to either or both of them if you have the opportunity! They are also proud parents of a 4 year old son who was only months old at the time of diagnosis.
Research supports that survivorship is increased with a strong support system. We are proud to share that we are the only spousal support available to breast cancer patients in this area. Our goal is to offer “out of the box” support for the persistent effects of a breast cancer diagnosis: Physical/Medical effects, Psychological effects, Social effects and Existential/Spiritual effects.
Men IN Pink was established for these men to proactively support their loved one who has breast cancer. By utilizing the network of other spouses/caregivers, they are also able to assist newly diagnosed families with transitional care and support. These men realize that a cancer diagnosis affects the whole family. Men IN Pink was started as another way for them to have a voice in this journey.
When families are able to face their emotional, physical and psychological needs, they have greater energy to focus on maintaining as much normalcy as possible during these difficult times. Individual, Marriage and Family therapy is also offered to all of our families.
The Men IN Pink meet bi-monthly from September to May from 5:30-7:00pm at Jocks and Jills Sports Grill, 4680 Sheraton Drive in Macon.
In between meetings, we meet for bi-monthly family socials to allow the WHOLE family the opportunity to meet the families of other survivors. This environment is very welcoming for first-time visitors and provides a more relaxed setting to learn more about one another.
Please see our Calendar of Events for dates of upcoming meetings and socials.
