About The Beach BuddiesThe Beach Buddies Club was founded in 2007 as a way to provide organized support for the children of breast cancer patients. The group is funded by Bunko for Breast Cancer who recognized the need for this kind of support in Central Georgia. Beach Buddies ClubThe purpose of the Beach Buddies Club is to serve children ages four to sixteen by giving them an opportunity to learn more about cancer, how to cope with it in their family and how to understand and communicate their feelings. Cancer affects the entire family and not just the person with the disease. Many parents agree that they do not know how to talk to their children about their cancer. Building communication reduces the stress and fears of the children. By creating an environment of openness and honesty, The Beach Buddies Club helps assure children they didn't cause their parents cancer. It also allows children to be children and offers them a safe place to have fun as well as gain support. Meets simultaneous with the Young Survivors group and allows the children to express themselves through conversation, art and structured play. Nursery/Childcare provided for children under the age of 4. All services are offered at no charge to our families. The Beach Buddies Club meet bi-monthly from September to May from 5:30-7:00pm at Forest Hills United Methodist Church at 1217 Forest Hill Road in Macon. A nutritious dinner is provided for the children at each meeting to help lighten the load of the family. We kindly ask our families to complete a registration form and photo release form for each child. In between our club meetings, we meet for bi-monthly family socials to allow the WHOLE family the opportunity to meet the families of other survivors. This environment is very welcoming for first-time visitors and provides a more relaxed setting to learn more about one another. Some of our past socials have included bowling, pumpkin painting, fishing, egg hunt, pottery and more! We welcome your donations to help keep our services and offerings free of charge to the families we serve.
